As per reports, 11 women have left their husbands and fled with their lovers after taking the first instalment amount of the government initiative, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This has sparked major controversy in Uttar Pradesh.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The central government initiated the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to fulfill the dream of owning a house for the common people. It facilitates access to affordable housing for the country’s low—and moderate-income residents. Under the scheme, the government provides around Rs. 2.5 lakh for building the houses, and the funds are allotted according to the families’ financial conditions.
The Maharajganj incident.
11 married women ran away with their lovers in the Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, around 2,350 beneficiaries received money under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme in the district. They belong to the villages of Sheetlapur, Ramnagar, Thuthibari, Bakul Diha, Chatia, Kishunpur, Khasra, and Medhauli.
However, several reports have emerged from various parts of the country indicating the misuse of the initiative. The news has also widely spread on the internet. As per Moneycontrol, husbands whose wives have fled away with their lovers taking the instalment have reported this incident to the officials. Raising their concern, the department has now decided to halt the next instalment for them. Also, it must be noted that under the scheme, there is a provision where the authorities can ask for the money back if any discrepancy is reported. A similar incident took place in the Barabanki district in UP.
