In a tragic incident, police informed that a group of 4-5 boys went for swimming in the Indrayani River at Kinhai village in Pune, Maharashtra. Out of these, three of them drowned to death. The deceased were identified as Gautam Kamle, Rajdilip Achme, and Akash Vittal Gode. All of them belonged to the Gurukul Chikhali area in Pune.

On Friday evening, at least three young boys drowned in the Indrayani River in the Kinhai village in Pune district, said an official. Senior Police Inspector Vikram Bansode, in DehuRoad Police Station, Pimpri-Chinchwad, said that they received information about the boys that they came to swim in the river, and three of them drowned. Upon receiving the information, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire brigade, and locals all reached the spot. The bodies of the three youths were recovered and sent to YashwantraoChavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital for further procedures. Senior Police Inspector Bansode said, “By 6 pm, the rescue team found the individuals, following which they were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead.”

In another similar incident yesterday, four children drowned in the Ulhas River in Thane after they went there to wash off their Holi colours. The children were identified as Aryan Medar, Aryan Singh, Siddharth Singh and Om Singh Tomar. Amid Holi celebrations, the Maharashtra Police launched a drive to check drunk-driving cases in Pune earlier on Friday. Check posts were set up at 91 places across the city, and police personnel and traffic police officers remained active.
The main purpose of the checkpoints was to monitor drunk driving cases and prevent accidents. 5,000 police personnel and 500 officers were deployed for this work.
