Ranbir Kapoor feels Ramayana for him is ‘life-defining.’

Speaking about taking on the role of Lord Rama, Ranbir confessed that he initially struggled with self-doubt. Playing one of the most revered figures in Indian culture came with immense responsibility, and the actor said he often questioned whether he could truly do justice to the character. However, as filming progressed, those fears gradually transformed into gratitude and understanding. Ranbir shared that immersing himself in the story brought him closer to concepts such as sacrifice, dharma, discipline, and emotional resilience. According to him, the project forced him to reflect on his own life and let go of certain unhealthy habits and perspectives. The actor said, “It changed my value system and the way I look at life,” and added that the journey arrived at exactly the right phase of his life.

“Ramayana wanted me to become a better person.”

One of the most emotional parts of Ranbir’s reflection was how closely the film became tied to his journey as a father. The actor revealed that becoming a parent to daughter Raha Kapoor while simultaneously working on Ramayana felt like a meaningful coincidence. According to him, fatherhood made him want to grow into a better version of himself, while the film gave him the emotional tools to do so. “Raha made me a better person, and Ramayana wanted me to become a better person for Raha,” he shared. Ranbir and actor-wife Alia Bhatt welcomed their daughter in 2022 and have occasionally spoken about how parenthood has transformed their lives. Though the couple prefers to keep Raha away from constant public attention, they often share heartfelt moments about raising their daughter.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema. The epic stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman alongside Ranbir Kapoor. Planned as a two-part cinematic epic, the first instalment is scheduled for release during Diwali 2026, while the second is expected in Diwali 2027.
