Several people’s health was affected, drawing the attention of Union Minister Amit Shah.

After drinking contaminated water, people in Ahmedabad’s Ghatlodia faced a major health issue when a leaking pipeline mixed sewage with the Narmada water supply to the area. Nearly 50 people were hospitalized, and several were severely affected.

The incident is now being looked into by the Union Minister, Amit Shah, under whom the Ghatlodia Lok Sabha constituency falls, who spoke to representatives and took charge of the situation as residents complained of diarrhoea and vomiting in a major number of people in that area over the last four days after consuming contaminated water.

Considering the matter and people complain, “Gandhinagar Lok Sabha MP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a call with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot concerning the diarrhoea and vomiting situation that arose in some societies of Gota Ward in the North-West Zone of Ghatlodia Assembly constituency in Ahmedabad,” a release from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party stated.

As per the release, the union minister instructed Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani and Health Department officials to undertake all necessary procedures, emphasizing that measures were being taken on a war footing to repair the pipeline.

The health department team also conducted a house-to-house survey to identify all affected people while distributing chlorine tablets for water purification.

As informed by Dr Bhavin Solanki, all preventive measures have been implemented immediately: door-to-door surveys have been conducted, chlorine testing has been carried out, and medical teams have been deployed in the area. The Medical Officer of Health at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has reported that 19 water samples have been collected from the area.

All monitoring in the area is conducted to bring the situation under control immediately.
