Amid swirling speculation about a possible postponement, Salman Khan’s much-anticipated war drama Maatrubhumi has reaffirmed its 2026 release with a striking new poster. The announcement comes as a relief to fans who had been concerned by reports suggesting the film might be pushed to 2027. Interestingly, the poster avoids mentioning director Apoorva Lakhia, instead carrying the simple credit: “A Film By Salman Khan Films.”

The delay rumours stemmed from alleged objections raised by the Ministry of Defence regarding sensitive portions of the script, particularly references to China. This scrutiny had fuelled speculation about the film’s timeline. The fresh poster, however, signals that the project remains firmly on track.

Earlier this year, the film underwent a significant rebranding. Initially titled Battle of Galwan, it was renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. Salman Khan unveiled the new title and first-look poster on Instagram, which depicted him peering from behind a blood-soaked boulder wrapped in barbed wire—a stark image that underscored the film’s intense and emotional backdrop.

Maatrubhumi draws inspiration from the Galwan Valley clash of June 15, 2020, one of the most defining military confrontations between India and China in recent history. The battle, fought without firearms, claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers and left a lasting imprint on national memory. Salman Khan steps into the role of Colonel B Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who led his men during the confrontation.

The film also features Chitrangda Singh in a pivotal role, alongside Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia. Music for the project has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya, adding further anticipation for its soundtrack. While the omission of the director’s name on the poster has sparked curiosity, the film’s creative direction remains associated with Apoorva Lakhia.

With its powerful subject matter and Salman Khan’s commanding presence, Maatrubhumi promises to be more than just a war drama, it aims to serve as a cinematic tribute to the soldiers who fought in Galwan.
