Elizabeth Olsen breaks silence on Avengers: Doomsdayrumours.
Marvel fans have long speculated about the return of Wanda Maximoff, better known as Scarlet Witch, in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Played by Elizabeth Olsen, Wanda has been one of the most powerful and emotionally layered characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Yet, recent comments from Olsen suggest her involvement in the next Avengers instalment may not be happening.
At the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo, Olsen addressed the swirling rumours about her MCU future. She admitted she has not been informed about Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, jokingly adding that she was even confused about how many Secret Wars films exist. Her candid remarks have fuelled speculation but offered no confirmation of her return.
The absence of Scarlet Witch from Marvel Studios’ official cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday further supports the idea that she may not appear. However, Marvel is known for keeping surprises under wraps, often withholding major cameos until release. This secrecy leaves room for fans to hope for at least a post‑credits appearance.
Wanda’s last on-screen presence was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In that film, grief drove her to dangerous extremes as she wielded the Darkhold in pursuit of her children from another universe. Ultimately, she destroyed the Darkhold across the multiverse and brought Mount Wundagore down upon herself. The sequence implied her sacrifice, though Marvel never explicitly confirmed her death. This ambiguity has kept theories alive, with many believing she survived due to the absence of a body and her immense power.
Despite Olsen’s denial of involvement, Marvel’s history of surprise reveals makes it difficult to rule out Scarlet Witch entirely. Fans recall Andrew Garfield’s repeated denials before his eventual return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Such precedents keep audiences guessing.
For now, Olsen’s statements and the official cast list suggest Scarlet Witch will not play a role in Avengers: Doomsday. Rumours point instead to her possible reappearance in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) or even Young Avengers. Until Marvel confirms otherwise, viewers may need to settle for speculation—or perhaps a fleeting cameo that reignites Wanda’s journey in the multiverse.
