The acclaimed director says Pather Panchali “blew his mind” while exploring Criterion’s legendary film archive.

During his visit to the Criterion Closet in New York- a treasure trove of cinema history, Nolan selected Ray’s The Apu Trilogy. He spoke passionately about its impact on him as a storyteller.

Browsing through shelves of iconic films, Nolan paused at Ray’s work and remarked, “The trilogy starts with Pather Panchali, which is an absolutely incredible film. It just blew my mind.” He admitted he has yet to watch the remaining two films, Aparajito and Apur Sansar, but expressed excitement about completing the journey.
