Gal Gadot opens up on DC Studios transition.

Actor criticizes handling of Henry Cavill and Patty Jenkins’ exits.

Gal Gadot has spoken candidly about her departure from the Wonder Woman franchise, revealing that she was initially told a third instalment was being developed with her in the lead. In a recent conversation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gadot explained that DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran assured her of plans for Wonder Woman 3. However, the project never materialized, leaving her tenure as Diana Prince uncertain.

The actor expressed disappointment over how the studio managed the exits of her colleagues, particularly Henry Cavill and director Patty Jenkins. Cavill had publicly announced his return as Superman after a cameo in Black Adam, only to confirm later that he would not continue under the new leadership. Gunn himself described Cavill’s situation as “unfortunate” and “unfair.” Jenkins, who directed the first two Wonder Woman films, also parted ways with the franchise in what Gadot described as a poorly handled process.

Reflecting on the transition, Gadot remarked, “They told me the opposite. They were like, ‘We’re going to develop it with you, the third.’ But I saw the way everybody else was handled.” She added that while she understood Gunn and Safran’s need to pursue their own creative vision, the way her colleagues were let go lacked respect. “The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty,” she said, emphasizing that although disagreements exist, “we’re all adults” and the studio heads are doing what they believe in.

Despite Gadot’s exit, DC Studios continues to move forward with the Wonder Woman character. A new film is currently in development, with Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira attached to the screenplay. This marks part of Gunn and Safran’s broader effort to reshape the DC Universe with fresh narratives and casting choices.

Gadot’s journey as Diana Prince began with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, followed by her solo films Wonder Woman (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020). She also appeared in Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

Outside of DC, Gadot recently starred in Netflix’s In the Hand of Dante alongside Oscar Isaac and Gerard Butler. She is set to appear next in Prime Video’s thriller The Runner, which premieres on September 2, 2026.
