This time, he has garnered more attention for suing the makers of a film that used his name in the title of their movie. Yes, you read that right. A film titled “Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar” was initially scheduled to release on Friday, June 14th, but a stay has been issued since Johar has filed a suit claiming the misuse of his name in the film’s title.

Filmmaker Karan Johar recently filed a lawsuit against writer-director Bablu Singh and the makers of “Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar” for the unauthorized use of his name in their film’s title. He took legal action against the makers and producers IndiaPride Advisory, Sanjay Singh, and director Bablu Singh for the unauthorized use of his name to benefit from his name and reputation. The Bombay High Court also restrained the movie from using Johar’s name and attributes, which has now delayed the film’s release.

On Thursday, 13th June, the Bombay High Court issued an injunction against the movie’s creators to prevent them from using the name and personal characteristics of film producer and director Karan Johar, as per a report in TOI.
The film is not to be shown in theaters.
Justice Riyaz Chagla ordered that the film not be shown in theaters or on any social media platforms until all mentions of the filmmaker’s name and personal attributes are removed.

Karan Johar, in his plea, claimed that the distribution of trailers, promotional assets, and posters had caused severe damage to his name and goodwill, breaching his privacy, publicity, and personality rights.
Justice Chagla noticed how the trailer appeared to direct the audience’s attention toward the plaintiff. Hence, the Bombay High Court has now prohibited the film from using Johar’s name and characteristics, giving the filmmaker much relief.
