4 Kirti Chakras and 18 Shaurya Chakras on the I-Day honors list, as per a report by the Defence Ministry.

India is celebrating its 78th Independence Day today, August 15. On the eve of the same, President Droupadi Murmu approved 103 gallantry awards for personnel of the armed forces and Central Armed Police Forces as per the Defence Ministry, 4 Kirti Chakras and 18 Shaurya Chakras will be awarded, India’s second and third-highest peacetime awards for uncommon courage and grit.

It is reported that President Droupadi Murmu will be awarding 4 Kirti Chakras and 18 Shaurya Chakras. According to the Defense Ministry, three of the Kirti Chakras and four of the Shaurya Chakras will be awarded subsequently.

Who are the Kirti Chakra awardees?

Killed in action, the Kirti Chakra awardees are Colonel Manpreet Singh of 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), deputy superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Muzammil Bhat and rifleman Ravi Kumar of 63 RR. The only living recipient of the award is Major Malla Ram Gopal Naidu. Colonel Manpreet Singh, the commanding officer of 19 RR, was killed last year in Anantnag in a counter-insurgency operation. Bhat, 34, was also killed in the same operation.

Who are the Shaurya Chakra awardees?

The Shaurya Chakra awardees include Major CVS Nikhil of 21 Para (Special Forces), Colonel Pawan Singh of 666 Army Aviation Squadron (Reconnaissance and Observation), Major Sahil Randhawa of 34 RR, Major Tripatpreet Singh of 34 RR, Naib Subedar P Pabin Singha of 56 RR, Sepoy Pardeep Singh of 19 RR (posthumous), Major Aashish Dhonchak of 19 RR (posthumous), and Subedar Sanjeev Singh Jasrotia of 5 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles.
