PM Modi is in the US, and during his visit, after wrapping up the Quad Leaders summit, he gifted a silver vintage train model made by Indian artisans to US President Biden. On Saturday, day 1 of his visit to the US, he also gifted a pashmina shawl to First Lady Jill Biden. The gifts memorialized the strong diplomatic ties between the countries, which the two leaders termed the “defining partnership of the 21st century” in a joint statement.
All about the antique train model.
The antique train model, made up of 92.5 percent silver, is a rare hand-engraved piece showcasing the craftsmanship of artisans from Maharashtra. The elaborate metalwork, use of repoussé techniques (hammering from the reverse to create raised designs), and intricate filigree work exhibit India’s artistic heritage and pay tribute to the steam locomotive era. The piece also signifies the importance of ties between India and the US, with a sign on the model inscribed “Delhi-Delaware” on the sides of the engine. The Quad Leaders summit was held in Delaware, President Biden’s hometown, making it a special nod to the occasion.
Besides this, PM Modi also gifted First Lady Jill Biden a pashmina shawl, highlighting the beauty of the Jammu and Kashmir-produced textile and its unique designs.
