Veteran actor Manoj Kumar passed away at 87. The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of the legendary actor and filmmaker of the Hindi film industry. Affectionately called by fans as “Bharat Kumar” for his portrayal of patriotic characters, the actor died at 4:03 am on Friday, April 4, at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.

The legendary actor Manoj Kumar, who was honoured with a Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in the field of cinema, in 2015, apart from winning a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards in varied categories, passed away on Friday. The late actor’s son, Kunal Goswami, confirmed that his last rites will be performed on Saturday, April 5, at 11 am at Pawan Hans in front of Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle.

While speaking to the media, Kunal Goswami thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his heartfelt tweet. He said, “I thank PM Narendra Modi for his tweet… Be it Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, or Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, these movies are still relevant today. The issues he raised are still relevant today, whether in the Parliament or in the society…” The late actor’s cousin, Manish R Goswami, described him as “a true countryman, a true Indian.”
PM Modi expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt message and wrote on X, “Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema who was particularly remembered for his patriotic zeal, which was also reflected in his films.
