On Tuesday, near the Jalandhar bypass, 32-year-old Meena Kumar was headed to a bus stop in Phillaur when she hailed an auto-rickshaw. In a terrifying brush with crime on a Ludhiana highway, the woman’s quick thinking averted tragedy and turned a potential robbery into a dramatic escape. According to TOI, the auto already had three men, including the driver and two passengers. When the vehicle approached its destination, things took a dangerous turn.

What happened with the woman on the Ludhiana highway?

One of the men asked the driver to slow down the car. Almost immediately, the two passengers tied Kumar’s hands and brandished sharp weapons in an alleged attempt to rob her. In just a second, her instinct kicked in, and rather than freezing in shock, she lunged toward the open side of the moving auto, hanging half out and screaming to alert passing cars. A car full of commuters captured the shocking moment in a video, which has now gone viral on the internet. The car, driving past the auto-rickshaw, was seen attempting to get the auto to stop. Eventually, people in other vehicles and bystanders intervened to rescue Kumar. They then pinned down two suspects, as per the report. Police said one man fled the scene, but an investigation is underway.
