The atrocious incident involves a minor, 16-year-old, being allegedly raped by her 32-year-old relative in Tripura. The incident happened when the victim was returning home from a prayer meet in West Tripura district, said police on Thursday. The 16-year-old rape survivor was allegedly taken by the accused to an undisclosed location in a vehicle, where he gave her some liquid to drink, as per the complaint filed by her father. The man is also her relative, who raped her after she fell unconscious, drinking the liquid, said the father.

The accused is married. A police officer said, “We registered a case under the BharatiyaNyayaSanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on a complaint filed on November 19. We arrested the rape-accused the same day.” Currently, the accused is in police custody for 14 days, the officer added.

Last month, a 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting his 15-year-old neighbour, administering poison to her and raping her in West Tripura district.
