Eid-al Adha 2024 is here, and so are several controversies that often make the headlines when it comes to the “feast of sacrifice.” It is considered the second of the two main Islamic holidays, along with Eid-al-Fitr. Ahead of the Islamic holiday, several states saw police raids at homes that were found with beef in their fridges.

A recent report suggests that in Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, the police authorities barged into several homes in the town and demolished houses of 11 individuals built on government land after discovering that they illegally traded beef.

150 cows were found in the backyard.

It is said that the authorities acted swiftly on a tip they received and found 150 cows and beef in their homes. Hence, an FIR was filed, and one arrest was made, while the remaining suspects are being sought. Also, the local veterinarian confirmed that the seized meat was beef, and the cows were now relocated to a shelter.

Police acted on a tip.

The police, acting on a tip-off regarding cow slaughter in the Bhainswahi area, conducted a raid which led them to the discovery of the slaughter of the captive cows. They confiscated beef and other animal products like animal fat, cattle skin, and bones from the accused, as mentioned by Rajat Saklecha, Mandla Superintendent of Police.

The local government veterinarian has confirmed the seizing of the beef found in those 11 homes. The Mandla Superintendent of Police further said they sent samples to Hyderabad for secondary DNA analysis.

SP, Mr. Rajat Saklecha, also mentioned how the Bhainswahi area had become a hub of cow smuggling for some time now. He also highlighted how cow slaughter in Madhya Pradesh is punishable with a jail term of seven years.
