High-level committee to submit a report on Ahmedabad plane crash.
In three months, a high-level commission will be submitting a report on the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad that occurred on June 12, said Mohol. The probe’s announcement comes days after the Air India flight 171, belonging to Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 fleet, crashed shortly after take-off, killing 241 passengers and people on the ground. However, one passenger miraculously survived the crash and escaped death. Mohol said that safety checks have been conducted on 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, and no issues have been found yet, news agency PTI reported. Air India operates 34 such aircraft. He also expressed hope that analysis of the retrieved black box of the plane would provide clues about the possible reasons for the crash.
Many other agencies are also probing the crash.
On Saturday, the government formed a high-level multi-disciplinary panel to ascertain the “root cause” of the crash of the London-bound plane in Ahmedabad. The committee will now assess any contributing factors, including mechanical failure, human error, and regulatory compliance, said the government. However, the Civil Aviation Ministry clarified that the panel headed by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will not be a substitute for other probes being conducted by other organizations. A separate investigation is also being carried out by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to look into the crash’s technical aspects.
Mohol said, “The investigation is underway, and several small details will be investigated. Many things will come to light after downloading the ‘black box’. A committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of the Union Home Secretary to investigate the matter. The report will be submitted within three months.” He added, “The Air India operates a total of 34 Dreamliner aircraft. Orders have been given to inspect and investigate all the 34 carriers. Of them, 10 to 12 carriers have been inspected so far, and no issue has been found in them yet.”
