Akshay Tritya, an auspicious festival of Hindus, is being celebrated today, on10th May all over the country. According to the tradition, buying gold on this day is considered to bring prosperity and good luck. If you are wondering whether banks will be closed on this day, here is what you need to know:

Banks closed in Karnataka on Basava Jayanti And Akshay Tritya

Banks in Karnataka will be closed on 10th May 2024 on the occasion of Basava Jayanti and Akshay Tritya.

Basava Jayanti is a regional festival of Karnataka which celebrates the birth anniversary of Basavanna, an important figure in the Lingayat tradition. Banks will be closed for three days in a row that is Friday, Saturday and Sunday so plan your bank visit accordingly.

Bank Operations In Rest Of The Country

Outside Karnataka the banks will function normally, as it is not a national holiday. However, bank closures vary from state to state according to regional holidays and local events.

Banks Will Remain Closed:

Banks in India will remain closed for 14 days in May 2024 as per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines. The following will be off days for the banks in different states of India:

May 10: Banks in Karnataka will remain closed on the account of Akshay Tritiya and Basava.

May 13: Banks in Srinagar will remain closed due to Lok Sabha General Elections.

May 16: Banks in Sikkim will remain closed for State Day.

May 20: Banks in Maharashtra will remain closed on account of Lok Sabha General Elections

May 23: Banks will remain closed for Budhha Pournima in the state of Tripura, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Lucknow, Bengal, New Delhi, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Srinagar

May 25: Banks in Tripura and Orissa will remain closed for Nazrul Jayanti and Lok Sabha General Elections.

RBI Approved Holidays

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set bank holidays in three categories: Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays, Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays and Bank Account Closing Days. Banks across India, whether regional, public, private, cooperative or foreign, are closed these days.

All banks close for national holidays like Republic Day(26 January), Independence Day(15 August), Gandhi Jayanti (2 October) and Christmas (25 December). They also close for other important festivals like Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Eid and Good Friday but that depends on state to state.

Also all banks are closed on second and fourth Saturday and Sunday of every month.
