The idea for the Life In A Metro sequel was given by the late actor Irrfan Khan, says Anurag Basu, who had no plans of making it otherwise.

Metro…In Dino is the director Anurag Basu’s latest film, which will soon release in theatres on July 4. However, the director reveals that he had no plans for a sequel, but the idea for the new film was suggested by the late actor Irrfan Khan.

Anurag Basu says Metro…In Dino was inspired by Irrfan Khan’s idea.

Anurag Basu is looking forward to the release of his new film Metro…In Dino in theatres. The film is a spiritual sequel to the 2007 original film, Life In A… Metro. In a new interview with News18, Basu shared a heartfelt anecdote about how the new film came to be. He said, “After Jagga Jasoos, Irrfan and I were chatting, and he suddenly said, ‘Metro 2 banaate hai’ (Let’s make Metro 2). It wasn’t right after Life in a… Metro. This was years later. But it was his suggestion that planted the seed for this film.” Irrfan played a key role in the original film, which stood out for its interconnected stories around urban relationships.

Rumours of a sequel in 2017.

There were rumours already back in 2017 that Irrfan signed the sequel of Life In A… Metro. However, the film was delayed and eventually took a different shape. Interestingly, Anurag Basu never intended to make a trilogy of hyperlinked films. He said, “I didn’t have any plans of making a trilogy. I was scared if Life In A Metro would even work. It was something very different. But after that, I got the hang of it. I started enjoying writing hyperlinked films. Then Ludo happened.”

Metro…In Dino stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Neena Gupta.
