Recently, Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary, announced that the board has decided to release Rs. 1 crore for former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who has been diagnosed with blood cancer. The BCCI Secretary personally spoke to the family of the ex-cricketer to extend his support in this challenging time.
BCCI offers financial help for Anshuman Gaekwad’s cancer treatment.
Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary, revealed that the board has come forward to extend its support and financial aid to former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who has been suffering from blood cancer. In a media release, BCCI assured the family of every possible assistance and expressed confidence that Mr. Gaekwad will come out of this phase strongly.
Anshuman Gaekwad’s condition was brought to light by ex-cricketer Sandeep Patil.
Sandeep Patil, former Indian cricketer, brought to light Anshuman Gaekwad’s condition earlier this year. He revealed that the former batter has been battling for his life for over a year and has been undergoing treatment in London. He also informed that Gaekwad personally informed him about the need for financial support. Dilip Vengsarkar, former Indian batter, also spoke to BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar regarding the same, who committed to looking into the request.
Kapil Dev, too, comes forward urging BCCI for financial aid.
The 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev also urged the BCCI for financial aid for the 71-year-old ex-cricketer. He informed that he is looking to arrange for funds for Gaekwad along with several former cricketers like Mohinder Amarnath, Sandeep Patil, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Madan Lal, and Kirti Azad.
Kapil Dev urges BCCI for better care.
Kapil Dev also highlighted the lack of a proper system by BCCI to take care of former cricketers. He stated that since BCCI is the richest cricketing board in the world, unlike in the past, it should look after the players from the past as well as the current players.
