Police have identified the suspects and launched raids; one of the accused in the man’s murder has already been detained.
A shocking incident took place in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, where a 40-year-old man was shot dead by bike-borne assailants. One of the accused has already been arrested in the case, said police on Friday.

As per reports and as told by police officials, the murder of the man in Hoshiarpur by bike-borne assailants was linked to a financial dispute. The incident happened in AddaKaloya in Tanda on Thursday, when two bike-borne assailants fired three to four shots at Baljit Singh alias Billa, a resident of KandhalaShekhan village. The police said that Baljit later succumbed to his injuries. Sandeep Kumar Malik, Hoshiarpur Senior Superintendent of Police, said a police team was constituted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Parminder Singh Heer to trace the assailants. Police identified the suspects based on human and technical intelligence inputs and launched raids.
One of the accused in the case was detained by the police.
During a police checkpoint near Chotala village on Friday evening, one of the accused, Lakhwinder Singh alias Maninder Saini, a resident of KhadialaSainian, attempted to flee on a motorcycle when signalled to stop, Malik said. When the police chased him, he allegedly fired two rounds at the team, following which the police retaliated. Lakhwinder sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was taken to the Government Hospital in Hoshiarpur for treatment.
The SSP said a country-made .30 bore pistol, along with live and used cartridges, were recovered from the spot. Police also said that the second accused has now been identified and would be arrested soon.
