Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for the Olympic silver medal has been rejected by the CAS.

Over the past few days, the entire nation has rallied behind Vinesh Phogat, hoping that her plea for a shared silver medal in the women’s wrestling 50kg final event at the Paris Olympics 2024 would be considered. However, the Indian wrestler’s plea was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday.

Major setback for Vinesh Phogat.

Vinesh Phogat experienced a significant setback when CAS rejected her plea for a shared silver medal. She lost her appeal today, as CAS dismissed her application days after the final verdict was pushed back. On Wednesday, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) also confirmed that the ad-hoc division of the CAS rejected Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification from the gold medal bout of the Paris Olympics 2024, as she was found 100 grams overweight a few hours before the final.

What did the IOA state after the plea’s rejection?

The IOA stated, “The operative part of the August 14 decision, which dismisses Vinesh Phogat’s application to be awarded a shared silver medal in women’s 50 kg category at the Paris Olympic Games, has significant implications for her in particular and the sporting community at large.”

Vinesh Phogat’s coaches and the IOA had tried their best to convince the authorities when she was disqualified, and when nothing worked, they went with a plea to the CAS. After this, Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling.
