Mercury levels dip in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi NCR, while the capital city continues to experience problems related to rising pollution.
Delhi NCR has remained on top of headlines for quite a few months due to the rising pollution levels in the capital city. Now, with the winter season ongoing, it is gripped by a cold wave and continues to face issues related to pollution. The cold wave conditions continue to grip Delhi NCR, along with neighboring Punjab and Haryana.
Temperatures drop in the national capital.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in the national capital has dropped further. On Sunday, the temperature recorded in Delhi at 5.30 pm was 4.9 degrees Celsius. At Narela, it was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius; at Pusa Observatory, it dropped by 5 degrees Celsius to a minimum temperature of 3.8 degrees Celsius. The air quality of Delhi continued to be in the ‘poor category’ with further deterioration in the condition.
Punjab and Haryana experience chilly weather.
In Punjab, Gurdaspur and Bathinda experience low temperatures, recording minimum temperatures of 2 degrees Celsius and 4.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, as per IMD. Pathankot experienced a minimum of 3.5 degrees Celsius, and Amritsar was at 3.9 degrees Celsius, saif IMD, as per PTI. Ludhiana lodged a minimum of 6.8 degrees Celsius, and Patiala was at 3.8 degrees Celsius. Haryana’s Hisar recorded a chill of 1.7 degrees Celsius, and Narnaul registered a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius.
The cold wave is expected to continue in the coming days, with Delhi’s minimum temperature expected to remain under 5 degrees Celsius.
