In a late-night crash, Dehradun police arrested a 22-year-old for killing four labourers with a speeding SUV.

A shocking incident came to light where 22-year-old Vansh Katyal killed four labourers with a speeding SUV. Dehradun police arrested the accused, tracing his car across three states. The police recovered the abandoned car from an empty plot in the Sahastradhara area late on Wednesday night.

On Thursday, Dehradun police arrested a 22-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly moving down four labourers with a speeding luxury SUV in the state capital’s Rajpur area on Wednesday after a 24-hour hunt that led them to three states. After fleeing the scene, the driver had parked the car at an empty lot. The police traced the Mercedes GLS400 across three states and multiple owners before eventually catching the accused, Vansh Katyal. He was taken into custody near the ISBT area in Dehradun.

The accused ran away from the accident scene.

The car, which bore a Chandigarh registration, had sped away from the accident scene after moving down four labourers and two people on a scooter near the Sai Mandir around 8.40 pm, said Ajai Singh, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Dehradun. The four labourers died on the spot, while the two scooter riders were injured.

Singh said that the accused, Vansh Katyal, has been booked under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 106 (causing death by negligence), 125 (endangering life by rash or negligent acts), 281 (rash driving) and 324 (4) (mischief causing damage) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
