According to the police, the criminals stole at least 150 laptops from different cities and subsequently sold them in the grey markets in Delhi. The Times of India further reported that after a successful heist, Pawan and Anita would escape to holiday destinations until their ill-gotten gains ran dry similar to the lead characters in the 2005 film Bunty Aur Babli.
Pawan and Anita would approach laptop traders under the guise of being directors of an IT company and would use their charm and ingenuity to seal deals with them. This resulted in a showroom owner willingly supplying 38 laptops to be set up as workstations in a rented hall near Laxmi Nagar. After concluding their recent heist in Nagpur, they had their eyes on conducting a robbery in Puri; however, the police caught wind of their plans and arrested them.
