Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan and director Sajid Khan’s mother, Menka Irani, passed away on Friday, July 26. She left for the heavenly abode after a prolonged illness at the age of 79. The heartbreaking news comes days after Farah Khan celebrated her mother’s birthday and revealed pictures of her in an Instagram post.

A series of emotional pictures were shared widely across social media platforms, including Shah Rukh Khan and his family members Gauri and Suhana Khan. They were seen consoling Farah. One of the moments shows SRK giving Farah a flying kiss as a sign of emotional support and affection.

Menka Irani’s birthday was celebrated on July 12, when Farah shared two photos and a long heartfelt note with her mother. She wrote, “This last month has been a revelation on how much i love my mom Menka.. she’s been the strongest, bravest person iv ever seen.. sense of humour intact even after multiple surgeries. Happy birthday, Mom! Today’s a good day to come back home ♥️ can’t wait for you to get strong enough to start fighting with me again.. I love you.” Sajid Khan, too, shared a picture of himself with his mother Menka and Farah and wrote, “Happy Birthday mummy…”

Early on July 26, many celebrities visited Farah’s residence to pay their last respects to her mother, including Rani Mukerji, Shilpa Shetty, Salim Khan, Bhushan Kumar, Sanjay Kapoor, and others. Director Zoya Akhtar, Farah’s cousin and Menka Irani’s niece, paid her tribute to her aunt posting a black-and-white picture of hers and wrote, “Menka Aunty ♥️ You shaped my life in ways I will be eternally grateful for. You made me read, you made me laugh, you made me listen to country music and you made me feel like the most special girl in the world. You will always be adored and never be forgotten. Rest in peace. Rest in Power ♥️ @menkakhan”
