Fatima Sana, even amidst trying times, turned up for the match.
Fatima Sana, Pakistan’s captain of the women’s team, turned up for the match against New Zealand while recovering from a personal bereavement. She had left the team last week after news emerged of her father passing away in Karachi. She missed the match against Australia, which Pakistan lost by nine wickets. However, the bowling all-rounder was selected for the match against New Zealand on Tuesday, which Pakistan needed to win to stay in contention for the semi-finals. Sana was seen tearing up while the Pakistan National Anthem was being played ahead of the match. The captain earned a lot of plaudits online for her commitment, bravery, and courage.
India and Pakistan are out of the T20 World Cup.
With India earlier losing to Australia, Pakistan stood a chance at qualifying for the semi-finals if they beat New Zealand by a big margin, but that didn’t happen. Pakistan beating New Zealand would have also allowed India to qualify.
