Gautam Gambhir becomes Team India head coach

Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, confirmed that former opener Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the head coach for Team India.

Gautam Gambhir’s name was always in the news when it came to being the next head coach for Team India. Now, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also confirms the same. Gautam Gambhir will become the Team India head coach, succeeding Rahul Dravid in this role.

Former opener Gautam Gambhir becomes the head coach for Team India, as confirmed by Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary, on Tuesday, July 9. In this role, he succeeds Rahul Dravid, the winning head coach of the T20 World Cup 2024, and faces the challenge of maintaining the team’s momentum and success rate.

After being appointed as the head coach of Team India, Gambhir will handle his first assignment – the forthcoming limited-over series against Sri Lanka. Team India is set to play against Sri Lanka in three ODIs and three T20Is starting on July 27.

Rahul Dravid has served as the head coach for Team India thus far. After becoming world champions and winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, he has stepped down from the head coach position. His tenure as the head coach concluded on a high note.
