After Rohit Sharma, Gambhir wants Jaiswal to take on the reigns of India’s captaincy.
It seems the Gautam Gambhir—and Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has identified a captain replacement, but they have found themselves at loggerheads. Despite the massive criticism concluding the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Rohit Sharma reportedly told the selectors that he would remain the captain until the board appoints his successor.
Gambhir and Agarkar-led selection committee has reportedly identified Rohit’s captaincy replacement.
As per a fresh report in Dainik Jagran, coach Gautam Gambhir and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee have identified Rohit Sharma’s captaincy replacement but have found themselves at loggerheads. The national daily, on Sunday, reported that Rohit threw the ball in BCCI’s court after telling the selectors that ‘he will remain the captain’ until the board picks the next skipper in Tests and ODIs. It was then decided that Rohit would remain the captain in ODIs for the Champions Trophy, with the selectors to decide on the future after the end of the tournament.
Discussion among the selectors for a strong vice-captain.
A fresh report from Dainik Jagran on Monday revealed the possibility of Jasprit Bumrah taking on the captaincy role. Discussions were also on for a strong vice-captain in a bid to manage the fast bowler’s workload management. While Rishabh Pant’s name was also discussed for the next captain in Test cricket, Gambhir backed Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The report added that Bumrah is likely to lead the Test and ODI teams under the condition that the selectors pick a “strong vice-captain who can lead when Bumrah takes rest, as it happens in Australia with Pat Cummins.”
