This morning brought with it the horrifying West Bengal train accident. It was reported that a goods train rammed the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express near the Rangapani station in West Bengal.

The train collision and accident occurred only seven kilometers from New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal. The train collision has already claimed the lives of 15 people, and it is reported that 60 have sustained injuries.

Senior police officer shares facts.
A senior police officer shared that thirty people sustained non-fatal injuries, adding that the three compartments of the Kanchanjunga Express derailed after the goods train collided from its rear end.

PM Narendra Modi was quick to express his condolences to the ones who suffered through the horrifying train collision and stated, “The railway accident in West Bengal is saddening. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. Spoke to officials and took stock of the situation. Rescue operations are underway to assist the affected. The Railways Minister, Shri @ashwinivaishnaw Ji, is on the way to the site of the mishap as well.”

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also shared that rescue operations have been carried out and posted on X, “Unfortunate accident in the NFR zone. Rescue operations are going on at war footing. Railways, NDRF, and SDRF are working in close coordination. The injured are being shifted to the hospital. Senior officials have reached the site.”
As per news agencies, the goods train overshot the signal and hit the rear parcel coach of the Kanchanjunga Express, which usually runs with two parcel cars and a coach for the guard.
