Google has now joined hands with the Tamil Nadu government to set up Tamil Nadu AI Labs. The Collaboration will focus on areas like skill development, AI start-up enablement, and enabling the industrial ecosystem, including MSMEs, to create scalable AI solutions. For the same, Google’s Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Gail Kent, met with MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Google will work with Guidance, Tamil Nadu’s nodal agency, under the newly-inked MoU for investment promotion, facilitation, and support for developing a robust AI ecosystem. The efforts will also be directed toward providing access to advanced tech and resources to empower individuals, businesses, and government entities to use AI for inclusive growth. Dr TRB Rajaa, minister for industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, said, “The MoU signed today will explore key Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives under the Tamil Nadu AI Labs. Our partnership with Google is a significant step forward towards establishing Tamil Nadu as a thriving AI and advanced electronics manufacturing hub. We are not just adopting technology; we are harnessing its power to propel our state into the future.”
Google and the government of Tamil Nadu will also collaborate in areas such as the manufacturing of Pixel 8 phones, education, and the rural economy. Google said that it is committed to developing AI that can maximize society’s positive benefits while addressing the challenges backed by its AI Principles.
