Google introduces 6 features for Google Maps in India.
Google has announced 6 new features for Google Maps in India, which are claimed to be built on AI and local partnerships to enhance user experience and promote sustainable travel. The updates are ready to roll starting this week and aim to address some of the most common commuter issues faced by Indian commuters.
6 features for Google Maps in India are –
- Flyover navigation: Google Maps will highlight flyovers with recommended routes in 40 Indian cities.
- Metro ticket booking: Google has introduced a new metro ticket booking feature for users in Kochi and Chennai powered by ONDC and Namma Yatri.
- AI-driven narrow road avoidance: Google is now using AI to help commuters avoid narrow roads, especially for four-wheelers. Using satellite imagery, street view, and other data, the system estimates road widths, adjusts routing algorithms and helps drivers navigate congested areas easily. It will be available in eight cities, including Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and more.
- EV charging station availability: Google has partnered with leading EV charging providers to integrate information on over 8,000 charging stations into Maps and Search. Commuters can access real-time availability and filter by charge type. India became the first country to feature 2-wheeler EV charging stations on Google Maps.
- Easier to report road accidents: The new feature includes improvements to user-generated content, allowing users to report road accidents and share information. It is available on Android, iOS, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
- Local recommendations: Google also collaborates with local experts to curate lists of recommended places in ten major cities and tourist spots.
Miriam Daniel, VP and GM of Google Maps, on the rollout, said that many solutions are being pioneered in India, for India, highlighting, “India truly is at the center of our innovation, and we can’t wait to build the future of Maps right here.”
