Hema Malini receives backlash on her comment on Vinesh Phogat

Actor Nakuul Mehta slams the veteran actor-politician for her “disgraceful” remarks on Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024.

Hema Malini garnered more headlines, for the actor-politician passed a few remarks on Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who, hours before her finals, in a tragic turn of fate, was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being “overweight by 100 grams.” In her initial comment, Hema Malini said that Vinesh Phogat should’ve kept her weight in check. However, this received a lot of backlash from people all over, including actor Nakuul Mehta.

Hema Malini, like millions of others across India, was shocked about Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification and shared her opinion, saying, “It is very surprising and bada ajeeb sa bhi lagta hain ki 100 gm ki wajah se woh disqualify ho gayi. Kitna mahatwa hain apna weight aur wazan ko theek se rakhna! Hum sab ko isse ek achha seekh milna chahiye sab kalakaro ko, mahilayon ko sabko… ki 100 gm also matters a lot! We feel very sad for her. I wish she loses that 100 grams quickly lekin milega nahi abhi (It is very surprising, and it feels strange that she was disqualified for being 100 gm overweight. It is important to keep the weight in check. It is a lesson for all of us. I wish she should lose that 100 gm quickly but she would not get the opportunity now).” Hema Malini’s comments did not go down well and many called it “insensitive.”

Nakuul Mehta also reacts on Hema Malini’s comments.

The actor took to his X account and reposted a tweet of the video. Reacting to her statement, he wrote, “Disgraceful.”

After sharing her opinion of Vinesh Phogat with reporters, she took it to her Instagram and called Vinesh Phogat a “heroine of this Olympics.” She shared Vinesh’s photo and wrote, “Vinesh Phogat, the whole nation rallies behind you! You are our heroine of this Olympics. Do not lose heart – you are meant for great achievements, and you have a bright future ahead of you! Just carry on bravely (Namaste emoji).”
