After a series of bomb threats that have consistently been received by airlines in the past few days, ten hotels in Rajkot, Gujarat, received hoax bomb threats through emails. This prompted police searches; however, no suspicious items were found. The investigation is ongoing.
Rajkot hotels were targeted by hoax bomb threats.
On Saturday, ten Rajkot hotels received bomb threats through emails, but no explosives were found after police searches and later were confirmed as hoaxes as reported by the police. The emails were received around 12.45 pm, prompting police and the bomb disposal squad to conduct thorough searches of the hotels, said SM Jadeja, Inspector of the Special Operations Group (SOG).
What did the threatening emails read?
The email sender, identifying himself as “Kan Den,” claimed that he planted bombs in ten hotels that were set to detonate in a few hours. The message read, “I placed bombs in every location of your hotel. The bombs will go off in a few hours. Many innocent lives will be lost today. Hurry up and evacuate the hotel.” After around five hours of search by the police, no suspicious items were found, Inspector Jadeja said, adding that an investigation was underway.
In the past couple of days, over 275 flights operated by Indian carriers have received hoax bomb threats, mostly through social media. More than 25 domestic and international flights were targeted on Friday alone. In an advisory, the government reminded social media platforms that they must, under IT rules, provide information under their control to assist investigative agencies within a maximum of 72 hours.
