In India, YouTube Shorts receive a trillion views

YouTube Shorts reached 11K creators with 10 Lakh subscribers and achieved trillions of views within four years of its launch.

The presence of various social media platforms over the years has only seen a significant rise worldwide. Especially during the pandemic, when people hardly had any source of entertainment, they turned to platforms like Instagram and YouTube to create content. Then came the trend of short-form content in the form of YouTube Shorts, which, till today, has only been one of the most used platforms. YouTube Shorts has now achieved trillions of views in India, emerging as a preferred platform by Indians to consume content, said YouTube CEO Neal Mohan during a Broadcast event recently in New Delhi.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said that YouTube Shorts has over 11,000 Indian creators with more than a million subscribers, which is a 50% increase year-over-year. He informed, “YouTube is the most streamed service on connected TVs in India with viewership growing 4x in the last 3 years.” He further said that cricket videos had more than 50 billion views over the last year.

After mentioning that 11K creators are from India on YouTube Shorts, he said, “YouTube’s growth in the country has been powered by the burgeoning creator ecosystem, making it number one in reach and watch time in India among ad-supported online video platforms in the country.” Speaking on AI, he said that YouTube has begun to roll out Dream Screen in India, letting creators create AI-generated backgrounds for Shorts by only typing an idea and highlighted, “We’ll continue to develop AI technology that builds on our track record of responsibility and pushes the boundaries of creative expression at a scale we can only dream about right now.”

YouTube also discussed the opportunities for marketers and advertisers. It unveiled a suite of new ad formats, such as Pause ads, interactive stickers for Shorts ads, and animated image ads, to enhance engagement and drive brand results.
