A Canadian lady of Indian descent has corrected the record in response to those who felt she didn’t care about labour exploitation after receiving negative feedback from a sector of the internet over her video in which she discussed her experience working with Amazon Canada.
Dr. Selena Khosla, a psychologist with a doctorate, claimed that when she learned she needed to return an Amazon purchase to the local post office, she went through “cultural shock” and had to move to Canada.

“The Amazon wale bhaiyaa (the Amazon delivery agent) will not come to your house to take the package back, you have to packet, print the label… and after doing all that hassle, you go to the post office to drop it,” she said in a video on Instagram Reels posted last week.

More than 4,000 comments and over four million views have been received by the viral film. She received criticism from a sizable portion of the video’s viewers.

Bombarded By Critics

“She is like, Why can’t we exploit workers here in the West like we do in India?” lyricist and poet Puneet Sharma said.

“Yeah, but it’s because we have cheap labour who barely make a living, that’s why,” another X user, Anupam, said.

“At any day, whatever inconvenience she experiences, she will choose to stay in Canada. The tone deafness on labour exploitation,” X user Rajendranath said.

How She Reacted

Dr Selene Khosla responded to the negative comments on Wednesday, saying she was simply highlighting the “pros” of living in India.

“Appreciation for the haters who still manage to find faults in India, criticise others for appreciating India, and have the time to spread negativity, rather than reflecting inwards on their low sense of self-esteem, immense self-doubt, inferiority, and inability to actually feel relevant,” she said in the comments section.

“I may be an NRI, but I’m doing my bit by highlighting the pros, rather than the cons.”

The content creator has over 1.21 lakh followers on Instagram and has a profile with a blue tick.

“I’d be happy to help the haters with a free therapy session on gratitude. Wrote a PhD on it. Being nasty to others is a reflection of the hate you feel for yourself, and I’d love to help you all feel better,” she said, responding to the hate comments.

Not The Only Such Story

When an Indian man studying in Canada for over two years posted a video showing how he gets free supplies from his university’s food bank, social media users took exception. After a couple X users posted his video and claimed he works for a Canadian bank and continues to receive “free food” intended for the kids, he faced outrage.

He was even called a “thief” and a “freeloader” by some. The man at the centre of the controversy, Mehul Prajapati, has spoken out about the difficulties he has had since his video went public. He discussed the emotional anguish and the threats he received online that had damaged his reputation in a phone interview with Hindustan Times.

He went on to say that it is untrue that he works as a data scientist for a bank. He revealed that he had been an intern at the aforementioned bank.

He disclosed that he is experiencing “great mental stress” when talking about how to handle the criticism. He sometimes even goes silent for a whole hour or two to get his mind off the whole mess.

Mehul claimed that although coming from a lowly family with little money, Canada “welcomed him.” Later on, he discovered the resources available to him as a low-income student. He filmed the movie, along with a few others, to let other students in comparable circumstances know about the options that are out there.

He was reluctant to tell his family when his video went viral and drew criticism, but in the end he chose to confide in his older brother. According to Prajapati, his brother has been making every effort to clear the student’s record.
