In a shocking incident in Kerala, a teen, aged 18 died of anorexia weighing only 24 kg. The Kerala girl survived on only a hot water diet for months. Doctors reported that the girl was influenced by online weight loss advice and survived only on hot water.

An 18-year-old Kerala girl died after she tried to survive on a diet of only hot water for months. Doctors at the Thalassery Hospital said that the teen was suffering from an eating disorder, anorexia and died weighing only 24 kg. On Sunday, a young girl, Sree Nanda, passed away, who was heavily influenced by online weight loss advice and survived only on water. She had stopped eating solid food for almost six months and was undergoing treatment for anorexia. A physician at Thalaserry Co-operative Hospital, Dr. Nagesh Manohar Prabhu, told news agency ANI that when the teen was brought to the hospital 12 days ago, she had to be admitted to the ICU. He said, “She was hardly 24 kgs, bedridden. Her sugar levels, sodium, and BP were low. She was out on ventilator support. But her condition did not improve, and she succumbed.”

“She hardly ate anything.”

The teen’s family claimed that her condition persisted for the last 5-6 months, and she hardly ate anything. When her family gave her food, she would hide it from them and get rid of it, only drinking hot water. When she started becoming frail, her family took her to the hospital, where doctors advised her family to get a psychiatric consultation for her. She was even taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital two months before her death.

Two weeks back, when she was admitted to the hospital, her blood sugar levels dropped, and she had breathing issues. Thus, she was rushed to the ICU, where she passed away.
