On Monday, Kerala police solved a week-long case of theft, where ₹1 crore and 300 sovereigns of gold was stolenfrom a house of a prominent trader in Kannur district. The accused in the case is a neighbor, who did the robbery when the trader was out for a wedding.

A Kerala theft shocked everyone, when it was found out by the Kerala police that the accused was a neighbor. The theft involved ₹1 crore and 300 sovereigns of gold that the man stole from a known trader in Kannur district.

The police took the accused into custody by an investigation team constituted to probe the case. The accused has been identified as a 30-year-old Vijesh, who works as a welder in the same locality as the trader. The ornaments and the stolen cash were recovered from under a cot at his house, as reported by PTI. The police said that the case was cracked with the help of CCTV footage and fingerprint evidence collected from the scene of the crime.
What did the CCTV visuals show?
The CCTV visuals showed the accused returning to the same house the day after the theft, which raised suspicions of the involvement of someone familiar with the household. Crucial evidence included a chisel found inside the house and fingerprints, said the police.
The theft took place, when a trader Ashraf with his family were out to attend a wedding in Madurai.
