While Shami wasn’t named in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, speculations were rife about his inclusion.

Bumrah, India’s stand-in captain, confirmed Mohammed Shami’s return to the Indian squad for the upcoming BGT series. He expressed hope that the star right-arm pacer would join the squad soon. During the pre-match press conference ahead of the 1st Test in Perth, Bumrah was asked for an update on Shami, and the pacer stated that the team management is “keeping a keen eye” on his return.

He said, “Shami bhai has started to play cricket, and obviously, he is an integral part of this team. I’m sure the management is also keeping a keen eye (on him). Hopefully, things fall in place and you might see him here as well.”
After the extended recovery period, Mohammed Shami marked his return to professional cricket. He featured for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and claimed four wickets in the first innings.
