Naqvi ensured the Asia Cup Trophy was locked inside the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headquarters in Dubai under strict instructions.
The Asia Cup Trophy handover saga does not end anytime soon. The tournament, which concluded last month with India defeating Pakistan in a tense final, remains in the headlines because the trophy hasn’t yet been handed over to the Indian team. Reports say that ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi has made sure to lock the trophy inside the Asian Cricket Council’s headquarters in Dubai under strict instructions.
Mohsin Naqvi locks the Asia Cup trophy in the ACC’s headquarters in Dubai.
The ACC Chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi have reportedly locked the Asia Cup Trophy 2025 at ACC’s headquarters in Dubai. Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, had allegedly carried the trophy off the presentation stage after the Indian team refused to accept it from him during the post-match ceremony held on September 28. A source close to Naqvi told PTI, “As of today, the trophy is still in ACC offices in Dubai with clear instructions from Naqvi that it should not be moved or handed over to anyone without his approval and in-person presence.” The source added, “Naqvi has given clear instructions that only he will hand over the trophy in person (whenever that happens) to the Indian team or BCCI.”
Naqvi’s politically-charged remarks on social media.
After India’s no-handshake take for Pakistani players during the Asia Cup and both teams’ players engaging in veiled and open political gestures on the field, Naqvi further deepened the controversy by making politically charged remarks on social media. His decision to physically take the trophy off-stage without allowing any BCCI or Indian representative to formally receive it has sparked a diplomatic and cricketing standoff. According to a source, the BCCI is preparing to formally raise the matter at the upcoming ICC board meeting, with discussions likely to include a move to censure Naqvi or even seek his removal as an ICC Director.
