Neeraj Chopra won silver at the Paris Olympics 2024 and made every Indian proud. However, he confirmed that his groin injury hampered his performance at the Olympics this year, missing the gold in the men’s javelin final.

Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal for India at the men’s javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics 2024. He put his best foot forward to clinch gold again after winning one at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Though his efforts were commendable, he looked to be struggling throughout the final event, which led him to the number 2 finish at the podium.

The young Indian javelin thrower has confirmed his groin injury, which he believes hampered his performance at the final. He is now contemplating surgery for an adductor issue that impacted his Olympic performance. He also revealed that he would discuss it with the team and hinted that he might get surgery done.

“I have to keep myself fit.”

After the match, Neeraj Chopra said, “I will talk to my team and take a decision accordingly. I am pushing myself despite the current situation of my body. The throw is good. But there’s still a lot inside me, and I have to keep myself fit for it. I have never felt sach mein, even though I have not crossed 90m… I thought I’ll do it. I had the belief. But, I have won a medal for my country. So that’s a big deal too.” He added, “I already threw 89.94m [PB in 2022] with this injury. When I throw, I always focus almost 50 percent on my injury. We have to focus mostly on technique, but it’s really hard for me with this injury. Doctors told me to go for surgery last year. Kheech raha hoon abhi tak [I’m stretching myself till now]. There have been treatments since. But we will have to take a big decision.”
