India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is competing today, August 22, at the Lausanne Diamond League in his first appearance since winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. He initially had considered a break due to a groin injury. Still, he decided to continue his season without immediate surgery as he plans to assess his condition after the season ends. Neeraj is also determined to make a strong return in this league. He won the Lausanne Diamond League in 2022 and 2023; winning this year would help him make a hat-trick.
Arshad Nadeem is not a part of the league.
Arshad Nadeem, who dethroned Neeraj Chopra and won gold in the Olympics 2024 with his record 92.97m throw, will not be part of the Lausanne Diamond League, making Neeraj Chopra a top contender to win the league. Other leading throwers, such as Paris bronze medallist Anderson Peters and Jakub Vadlejch, will be a part of it; Vadlejch will lead the standings with 14 points, while Peters will have 13 points.
Neeraj Chopra said, “I came to Switzerland to train ahead of the Diamond League. Luckily, I did not aggravate my injury and took extra care of that. I thought of continuing my season like most other athletes. There is one month to go until the season ends. I will go to the doctors in my free time. The final treatment will be after the season ends. I will try to take care of it as much as possible and consult the doctors later.”
