YouTube announces new updates for identifying AI-based content.

YouTube has unveiled a series of updates to help viewers identify AI-generated content, addressing concerns about potential misinformation. The new guidelines on YouTube will require creators to disclose if their videos are made or altered using AI. The platform will also allow users to request the removal of specific AI-generated through a privacy request process.

YouTube will add prominent labels on the description panel and video player.

To support this initiative, YouTube will add prominent labels on the description panel and video player. This will indicate that the content is created with Artificial Intelligence or altered, which will help viewers get misled by AI-based content or media, ensuring they understand the nature of the content they are watching. In some cases, labels will not be enough. Hence, YouTube stated that it would remove certain AI media if it violated Community Guidelines, regardless of labeling.

Empowering users to remove specific AI-generated content.

YouTube will empower users to request the removal of specific AI-generated or altered content through a privacy request process. These requests will be evaluated on factors like whether the content is satire or parody, whether the requester can be uniquely identified, and whether it features public officials or well-known individuals subject to higher scrutiny. If creators fail to comply with the new guidelines, they may face penalties, including content removal, suspension from the YouTube Partner Program, and other disciplinary actions.

The company said if a privacy complaint is filed, YouTube may allow the uploader to remove or edit the private information within their video, giving them 48 hours to act on the complaint. During this time, creators can utilize the Trim and Blur tools on YouTube Studio.
