PM Modi emphasises peace during the Vladimir Putin meet

Vladimir Putin told PM Modi that he felt grateful for the attention India was paying to peace efforts on Ukraine.

One of the biggest and most talked-about political meetings of the year has been between Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and India’s Prime Minister NarendraModi. The two shook hands ahead of their meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

On Friday, PM Modi gave a message of peace ahead of his bilateral summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin at New Delhi’s Hyderabad House. He referred to the Russia-Ukraine war and told Putin that India was “not neutral” but in fact “on the side of peace.” He said before the start of the meeting, “India is on the side of peace. We always support peace. We support a peaceful solution to the conflict.”

Putin says he is grateful for India’s attention to peace efforts on Ukraine.

On the other hand, Putin told PM Modi that he was grateful for the attention India was paying to the peace efforts in Ukraine. He further said that India and Russia have relations in the military sphere, as well as in space development, artificial intelligence and other areas. He added, “We plan to move forward in all these areas.” The 23rd Russia-India Summit takes place at a crucial moment as the US pushes for a Ukraine peace deal while seeking global cooperation. They will test New Delhi’s efforts for balancing relations with Moscow and Washington as the nearly 4-year war in Ukraine grinds on.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is on his maiden visit to India in four years for a 2-day State visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. Earlier, Putin paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in the national capital, following his ceremonial welcome and tri-services guard of honour at RashtrapatiBhavan. Before his arrival at Rajghat, the President of the Russian Federation was welcomed by President DroupadiMurmu and Prime Minister NarendraModi at RashtrapatiBhavan, where he received a ceremonial tri-services guard of honour.
