R Ashwin has advised patience for Sooryavanshi’s India debut and doesn’t want it rushed.

In the ongoing IPL 2026, VaibhavSooryavanshi, 15, who plays for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the league, once again showcased his cricketing prowess when he hit a 15-ball century for the team on a tricky Guwahati pitch against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Amidst this, there has been chatter around him about making his India debut. However, RavichandranAshwin has a different take and doesn’t want his debut to be rushed.

R Ashwin, unlike other experts, doesn’t want VaibhavSooryavanshi to debut for India soon.

The likes of Michael Vaughan and Mohammad Kaif believe the teenager is ready to be called up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. However, former India spinner R Ashwin is of a different opinion. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said that Sooryavanshi’s debut should not be rushed as he still has more than two decades of cricket ahead of him.

What did R Ashwin say on the matter?

Ashwin said, “Don’t give him such a target. He is not even a man; he is a kid. If MS Dhoni plays until 45 [44] and Sooryavanshi plays until 40, he has two and a half decades left in cricket. Leave him alone; he will come on his own when the time is right. He is too good not to play for India. He will play anyway eventually. When will he play? For that, we might have to wait a bit. Why are we always in a hurry?”

VaibhavSooryavanshi, after making his IPL debut last year, became the youngest centurion in the T20 league at the age of 14. Before turning 15 a few days ago, Sooryavanshi broke several records for India in the Under-19 and A sides. Yet, Ashwin insists his senior debut should not be rushed.
