A CCTV footage from the Old Delhi area showed, from a distance, the exact moment of the explosion that killed at least 13 people and injured 21 others near Red Fort on Monday evening. Eyewitnesses, shopkeepers, and those near the blast site shared that the explosion was of high intensity, causing windows to shatter and buildings to tremble. Authorities have been investigating the incident from all angles with heavy security arrangements in place across the national capital.

The historic Red Fort has been closed to visitors for the next three days, while the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also closed the LalQila metro station on the violet line for security reasons. The CCTV footage posted on X by the news agency ANI shows the explosion from a distance. A bright yellow-orange blast light is seen in the top right corner of the footage. According to Delhi Police, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light near the Red Fort minutes before the blast. Satish Golcha, Police Commissioner, said, “At around 6.52 pm, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle, and due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged.” Investigators said that they traced the car’s route and found it was parked for nearly two hours at a lot adjacent to Red Fort before it exploded while moving slowly on NetajiSubhash Marg.
According to CCTV footage, the car had three occupants and was seen heading from Daryaganj Market towards the Sunehri Masjid parking lot beside the Red Fort on Shantivan Marg around 4 pm. Two hours later, it was seen leaving the parking lot, taking a U-turn near Old Delhi railway station, and proceeding towards Subhash Marg. An officer said, “It was being driven on the Chhata Rail Chowk stretch before taking a U-turn and moving towards Lower Subhash Marg. The footage shows the car slowing down at a signal when the explosion occurred.” All the three occupants in the car were killed instantly.
