Due to massive smog covering almost the entire city of Delhi, several flights and trains were delayed by up to nine hours.
Due to smog in Delhi, more than 28 trains arriving at New Delhi and Anand Vihar railway stations were delayed by two to nine hours on Monday. A thick layer of smog at NH24 near Akshardham Temple in New Delhi on Sunday also went viral on the internet.

Several train and flight operations were disrupted on Monday as thick smog enveloped the national capital, reducing visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. As per Flightradar24, more than 160 flights at Delhi Airport, comprising 118 departures and 43 arrivals, were delayed until 8.30 am due to poor visibility. The departure delays averaged 22 minutes. Also, seven flights were delayed in the morning on Monday.
Inconvenience caused to passengers.
Due to the major delays in trains and flights, passengers faced inconvenience in travel. Many bound for other cities were seen waiting outside the stations. Meanwhile, the Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory, urging passengers to contact their airlines as low visibility procedures were implemented due to the air quality worsening.
Severe air pollution in Delhi.
The “severe” air pollution in Delhi led to the activation of GRAP Stage 4 anti-pollution measures across Delhi-NCR. On Monday, by 6 am, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) worsened to 481, placing it in the “severe plus” category.
Atishi, Delhi’s CM, announced staggered office hours to help reduce pollution. Also, all primary schools have been shifted to online classes.
