GT captain Shubhman Gill was fined 24 lakh rupees for his side maintaining a slow-over rate for the second time in IPL 2024 on 10th May. The Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) just announced that Shubman Gill is in trouble for breaking one of the newly implied and important rules. He has to pay 25% of his match fee as a punishment.
Apart from Shubhman Gill, the rest of the playing XI and also the impact player who faced CSK will be fined 25% of their individual match fee or straight up 6 lakh rupees, whichever amount is less.
Second Over-Rate Offence in IPL 2024

This was the second over-rate offence by GT, the earlier being against the same opponents in CSK, in the reverse fixture on March 26 which landed Shubhman a fine of Rs 12 Lakh. According to regulations set by BCCI and IPL, the captain will face a one-match ban if his side is found guilty of offending the rule (maintaining a slow-over rate) three times in a season.
“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined INR 24 lakh. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the BCCI/IPL statement read.
GT VS CSK : How It Went?

After CSK won the toss and GT was sent to bat first, openers Shubhman and Sai Sudarshan shattered multiple records with their 210-run partnership. Shubhman scored 104 runs off 55 balls alongside Sudarshan’s 103 off 51. After getting beaten by CSK before, GT totally turned things around and got their revenge by beating the defending champs by a whopping 35 runs at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.

Even though Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali did a great job hitting the ball for CSK, GT’s Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan were just too good. They helped GT win the game, moving them up to 8th place in the IPL 2024 points table. GT now has 10 points from 12 games.
