The young cricketer responded to the messages and expressed his gratitude, claiming that he started playing cricket because of his father.
Shubman Gill’s knock of 269 runs against England as India’s Test captain made his family, fans, and the cricket fraternity extremely proud. The 25-year-old emphatically asserted his authority over the English bowlers and achieved a historic feat with back-to-back triple-digit scores in his new role as captain.
Shubman Gill feels emotional after listening to a voice note of his father.
After Day 2’s play, the BCCI social media shared a video of Shubman listening to a message from his father and mother after his record-breaking knock. His father, LakhwinderSingh, was elated with his son’s performance and said that the knock reminded him of the way he played at an age-group level in cricket. He said, “Shubman beta, well played, aaj teribatting dekh ke bahut mazza aaya aur dil ko bahut sukoonmileya, jaise tu chota U16, U19 khelta thaa, ussi tarah kibatting laggi, or bahut his proud feel hua, (Shubman, son, well played. Today, watching your batting brought a lot of joy and great peace to my heart. It felt just like when you used to play in U16, U19. And I felt very proud.)”
Shubman Gill’s mother also shares a message.
His mother shared that she was proud of him. In the message, she said, “Bahut accha laga beta tera batting dekh kar, keep going, God bless you (Felt very good watching your batting, son. Keep going, God bless you).” Gill, who looked visibly emotional after listening to the messages, said, “This means a lot to me.”
Gill added, “Growing up, I played all of my cricket for my dad, in the sense that it was because of him I started playing cricket. He and my best friend, whom I practised with, these are the only two people, when it comes to cricket, I care about and I listen to. Means a lot coming from him, but he also said I missed my Triple century.”
