It is reported that Shubman Gill will lead team India on the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, which will include a five-match T20I series.

Shubman Gill is a frontrunner in captaining India’s team for the Zimbabwe tour.

Shubman Gill, the Indian batter, is all set to captain team India for the five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe next month. Gill traveled to the US as a reserve player in India’s T20 World Cup Squad before getting released. He is now all set to debut as a captain with the national team and lead a bunch of youngsters for the Zimbabwe tour, which will be played in Harare starting July 6.

Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav decline to be a part of the series.

As per a report in The Indian Express, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav refused to participate in the Zimbabwe tour. Other senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja will also take a break following India’s T20 World Cup campaign.

BCCI shortlists the squad for the Zimbabwe tour.

It is also reported that BCCI has already shortlisted a squad for the tour of Zimbabwe and finalized the skipper after confirming Hardik Pandya’s and Suryakumar Yadav’s unavailability.

Shubman Gill’s promotion could set a blueprint for deciding the next India captain.

The young Indian batter’s promotion could set a blueprint for deciding the next Indian captain, especially after Rohit Sharma deprioritized playing the format after the T20 World Cup. Over the last year or so, Hardik Pandya has taken command in Rohit’s absence for India’s T20I team. Suryakumar Yadav also led India in the five-match T20I series against Australia after the 2023 World Cup.

It will be interesting to see how Shubman Gill leads India’s team for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
