Setting Twitter ablaze, social media users see Jaiswal better than Gill after watching the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai.
The contrasting test careers of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have been discussed on social media during the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai. Jaiswal stood firm as a young left-hander at one end, even as wickets tumbled at the other end in the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram stadium. Jaiswal rose to be the standout batsman for Day 1, hitting his 5th half century in just his 17th innings to go with his three centuries, including two double-hundreds.
Yashavi Jaiswal stands tall on Day 1 of the Test series against Bangladesh.
The left-hander batsman did very well on Day 1 of the Test series against Bangladesh. However, this cannot be said about another young batter, Shubman Gill. The right-handed batsman has not been able to showcase his talent in red-ball cricket. Gill averages only 35 in his 25-match Test career. He started as an opener, but in the same series that Jaiswal made his Test debut, he asked for the No.3 spot from the team management and got it in the post-Cheteshwar Pujara era. However, batting at that number, Gill hasn’t reached his full potential yet.
Social media users prefer Jaiswal over Gill.
Social media users reminded Gill of not reaching his potential after he was dismissed for a duck on Thursday. Since then, many social media users have been reacting to his performance. One user said, “Unpopular opinion, but Jaiswal is 100x better than overrated Gill.” Another wrote, “Yashasvi Jaiswal is the future of Indian cricket, not Shubman Gill. Unpopular opinion, but Jaiswal is better than overrated Gill. No hate, this is a fact.” Another wrote, “Shubman Gill has 1492 runs after 47 innings in 4 years. Meanwhile, Yashavi Jaiswal has scored 1071* runs after 16 innings, having made his debut last year.”
